Dining in Casares – the gastronomic route
Casares is well known for its gastronomy. Despite being a small municipality with a population of just over 6,500 inhabitants, it has an amazing number of restaurants. It is renowned for its excellent dining options. Keep reading to discover the ultimate list of restaurants and ventas in Casares.
The main Casares Road is often referred to by food-lovers as a ‘Gastronomic Route’. As you go up this road that links the coast to the village, there are numerous restaurants. We felt that it would be good to create a list of these restaurants – each and every one is unique.
What is a Venta?
Ventas are traditional, roadside inns found all over Spain. They are often old buildings which, at one time, would have lent themselves to travellers passing through towns with horses and carriages. At one time, a venta would have been the perfect pitstop after a long day of travelling. However, in today’s society, they serve a slightly different purpose. Ventas make for the perfect Sunday afternoon lunch spot or some even offer cocktail bars and chillout areas with beautiful views. Continue reading this blog piece to find out more about the many ventas and restaurants found alongside the Casares road.
“Menu del Día Please!”
At many ventas, you may find a ‘menu del dia’ (AKA: menu of the day). These menus tend to be a set price (i.e. 15 euros for 3 courses) and are often great value for money! However, staff may not always promote these menus so it is always worth asking.
The Ultimate List Of Restaurants on the Casares Road
Last week we visited every venta and restaurant along the Casares road. Watch this short video below to follow our journey. Keep scrolling to read about each of the ventas we stopped. You can also find the contact details of each of these below. Happy dining!
Venta La Choza
Venta La Choza is not strictly on the Casares road. However, without it, any review on the ventas in Casares, would not be complete. Located on the roadside of the A7, La Choza, is a traditional style Spanish venta. It is a large restaurant which has a capacity for over 200 people. Apart from the main dining hall, it has several private dining rooms. La Choza is decorated in a traditional Spanish style and has lots of character, making you feel like you are in the real Spain. It is also a good venue for big groups and celebrations. Its menu is very big and very varied. Check it out here. They offer a range of food options that range from typical Spanish style dishes like gambas pil pil to dishes like stroganoff and pasta. There is an endless amount of choice and a good kids’ menu.

Bahia de Casares Cafeteria
This is a very informal café style restaurant. It is a great meeting point. It is located just at the foot of the Casares road, next to the petrol station. There is parking outside it and nearby. This is a great breakfast venue. The coffee is nice and strong and they give you the option of having lactose free milk! It is also a fantastic stop off if you are looking to have a quick lunch – they usually offer a great menu del día ( menu of the day). If you are on the Casares beach and looking for a cheaper option than a chiringuito, you can walk over the pedestrian footbridge and have a cheaper meal here. There is a large terrace which is perfect. Whilst you are right by the main A7 road, it is elevated enough so that you do get sea views.

Venta Cozar
Venta Cozar is one of my favourite ventas on the Casares road. It is not too pricey and has something for everyone. It has an extensive menu to cater for kids and adults alike. they also do a fantastic menu of the day! They have two dining halls – a big dining hall which is a traditional Andalucian Style and another smaller area which is surrounded by glass.
In the Autumn and Winter months, the smaller dining hall is a perfect sun trap and you can look out and see the views. There is also a big outside terrace area. There is a parking area right outside the restaurant. This venta gets very full over the weekends, especially for a Sunday lunch so I would definitely recommend booking in advance. The views are lovely over across to the Casares mountains with the sparkling blue sea in the background.

The restaurant has lots of windows and the terrace has glass curtains meaning that you get to enjoy the magnificent mountain views.
Venta Garcia offer a lunchtime, 3 course Menu del Día (Menu of the day) for 15€, during the weekdays – please note that drinks are not included. Finca Arroyo Hondo
Located in the surroundings of the white-washed village of Casares, you’re guaranteed a warm welcome from the staff at Finca Arroyo Hondo. The restaurant has been open for 18 years and the staff here are very excited to welcome back customers following the months of lockdown. Arroyo Hondo offers both indoor and terrace seating.
Arroyo Hondo offer a Fusian style cuisine – many of their dishes are a combination of traditional Spanish style dishes with an Asian twist on them. It is a lovely restaurant for a special occasion. The food is excellent. In fact, we hosted the Hamilton Homes Christmas Dinner at Arroyo Hondo and the service and food was simply perfect.
They are also very well known for their Sunday roasts – however, if you do want to go on a Sunday, you definitely need to book as they do get very busy! Arroyo Hondo offer a great menu del día at 15 Euros for three courses from Tuesday – Saturday.

Venta El Mirador
Nearing the end of the Casares road and finishing off our ultimate venta list is the much-loved Venta El Mirador. This is one of the larger Ventas in Casares which offers traditional Andalucian cuisine. Sit out on the large terrace and admire the view of the valley below. On a clear day, you can see as far as Gibraltar! I love laid back, chilled out feel of this Venta. The owner also always has some great wine recommendations.
