The Ultimate Chiringuito Guide: Sotogrande to Estepona (2026 Edition)
There’s nothing quite like a chiringuito on the Costa del Sol.
Whether it’s the salt in the air, a cold drink in hand or the sound of sardines grilling over an open fire, these relaxed beachfront restaurants are one of the reasons so many of our clients fall in love with this part of southern Spain.
Over the years, we’ve spent plenty of time exploring them (strictly for research purposes, of course!). As a result, we’ve discovered the places we return to time and time again, whether it’s after a morning of property viewings, a family celebration or simply a long, lazy lunch by the sea.
After all, living on the Costa del Sol isn’t just about the sunshine or the beautiful beaches. It’s about the lifestyle, and a great chiringuito is a big part of that.
That’s exactly why we’ve created this guide. From traditional beachfront restaurants serving freshly grilled espetos to stylish beach clubs perfect for sunset cocktails, we’ve brought together our favourite chiringuitos from Sotogrande to Estepona, along with a few hidden gems you might not have discovered yet.
We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
To make things easier, we’ve organised this guide by both area and vibe, so whether you’re looking for a relaxed family lunch, sunset cocktails or a traditional beachfront chiringuito, you’ll quickly find the perfect spot.
A Quick Note on Opening Times
Before you head out, it’s worth remembering that many chiringuitos along this stretch of coastline are seasonal.
Most begin opening in March or April, usually around Easter, and then remain open until late September or October, although this can vary depending on the weather and demand.
However, that doesn’t mean you’ll be short of options during the quieter months. Several excellent chiringuitos stay open all year round, making them perfect for enjoying the Costa del Sol outside the busy summer season.
So, if you’re visiting out of season, we always recommend checking the latest opening times or booking ahead before setting off, just to avoid any disappointment.
If You Only Have Time for a Few

Our Insider Tips
After years of living and working along this coastline, we’ve picked up a few tips that can make your day at a chiringuito even better.
- Book ahead, especially on Sundays and during the summer months, as the most popular spots fill up quickly.
- Arrive around 1:00 pm if you prefer a quieter lunch. Alternatively, book for 3:00 pm if you want to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a long afternoon that often ends at sunset.
- Ask for a front-row table whenever possible. There’s nothing quite like dining with uninterrupted views of the Mediterranean.
- Don’t be in a hurry. Chiringuitos are all about slowing down, enjoying good company and embracing the Costa del Sol lifestyle.
- Pre-order your paella if you can, as many restaurants prepare it fresh to order and it can take a little longer.
- Bring your swimming costume. Many chiringuitos are just steps from the sea, so why not enjoy a swim before lunch or spend the afternoon relaxing on a sunbed?
- Don’t overlook dinner. While lunchtime is always popular, many chiringuitos become even more magical in the evening, when the temperatures are cooler and the sunsets give way to moonlit views over the sea.
A Final Thought
For us, these aren’t just places to eat they’re part of everyday life on the Costa del Sol.
They’re where we celebrate birthdays, enjoy Sunday lunches with family, meet friends for sunset drinks and, quite often, introduce our clients to the lifestyle they’ve been dreaming about.
Because finding the right home isn’t only about the property itself. It’s about the mornings spent by the sea, the long lunches that turn into evenings, and the places you’ll return to time and time again.
We hope this guide helps you discover a few new favourites of your own.
After all, that’s what life on the Costa del Sol is all about.
Live where others holiday.
