El Paseo Chiringuito is located on the Sabinillas promenade. Please click here for a later, updated post on El Paseo
A few weeks ago there was a slight blip in the weather and we had to choose a chiringuito that had windows! Chiringuito El Paseo has been at the end of Sabinillas beach (located close to La Noria) for over 12 years. I recall it was here, that my son, then aged 4, had his first taste if boquerones and Calamares and he’s liked them ever since.
This particular Friday, one of our friends was moving to Germany so she joined us for lunch as a bit of a “leaving do”. Although the weather outside was dismal, inside was warm and friendly with lots of laughter coming from our table.
The owner advised us of the specials and recommended some dishes. We ordered a mixture of fish dishes, 2 portions of chips and a large salad. The salad and some of the fish dishes arrived almost immediately….some may say “really efficient service while others may think “pre-cooked food….”. We only got one portion of chips (but, in fairness, were only charged for one).
As more dishes arrived, the owner told us that she thought we hadn’t ordered enough food for the amount of people at our table so had bought us another portion of Abedejo (cod). At the time, we thought that was a really lovely gesture until we realised we had been charged for the second portion – an extra €10.50 on the bill!!! As it was, we did actually eat the second portion but more because it was there and not because we were hungry.
Despite this, the food and service were excellent and I’m sure Chiringuito El Paseo will be around for many more years.
