Organised Hikes in the campo

Every year, throughout the autumn and winter months, the delegation of Environment for Manilva organises a series of hikes and walks in different parts of the beautiful countryside around the Costa del sol. The walks vary in difficulty and length so you can choose one for your level. The first of this years walks takes place this coming Sunday, 21st  October, with as walk  in through the hills of Alhaurin and Mijas. It will be the first irganised walk in this area since it was categorised as a “parque natural”

There are two routes on offer, one of 6km (approx 2 hours) and another of 13km (approx 4.5hours) so you can choose which one you prefer. The activity is open to everyone, (children under 14 must be accompanied and under the supervision of their parents or legal guardians) but you must have a suitable level of fitness to be able to complete the course

The walk will start from the premises of  la Real Sociedad de Tiro Jarapalo, carretera de Coin, km 17, Alhaurin de la Torre, 29130, Malaga. http://clubdetirojarapalo.com/html/localizar.html

The difficulty level of this walk is low – medium so not that strenuous.  You must bring your own food and water but there will be points along the route where you can refill your water bottles.  As you pass along the route, there will be volunteers and members of the civil protection team, equipped with radios and telephones in case of emergency. There will also be support vehicles and escape routes established by the organization – look like they’ve thought of everything!!!

Of course, it goes without saying that you must respect the environment – you cannot to collect plants, throw any rubbish and definitely  not any cigarette butts….

The Environment Councillor, Emilio López Berenguer, encourages all nature lovers to take part in this exercise, and has confirmed that they are  already planning other routes for the coming months.

Transport has not been mentioned so maybe. with the “crisis” they are not providing this any more – I’ll try to find out..For more information, contact  Lola and Juan Andrés Ahumada Rojas at La delegación de Medio Ambiente in Manilv The office is situated in the building above the  local police station at the entrance to Manilva, or call on 951 27 050.
