Debbie’s Lockdown diary – Thursday 9th April – Easter is Cancelled

I woke this morning with bad back pain – I think I’ve pulled a muscle – Joe Wicks has a lot to answer for :) Andy ran me a hot bath with lots of bubbles – pure luxury – I laid in the bath and read a magazine – I can’t remember the last time I did that – I think we are all appreciating the simpler things at this time.

It’s hard to believe it’s Easter. Normally, I’d be very excited about having 4 days off and we’d be planning days out with friends who normally come over for Easter and no doubt, Andy would be trying to squeeze in a game of golf. We would have had a busy few days in the office with the influx of people who come to the coast for “Semana Santa”.

Semana Santa is a huge fiesta in Spain with processions nearly every day of the week in the larger towns and cities. Even here, in Manilva, there are around 4 processions over the Easter weekend. The Thursday and Friday processions are very somber – one is done in complete silence – but the mass and subsequent procession on Easter Sunday is very joyful. The atmosphere in the village is fantastic. As we can’t enjoy the processions in reality this year, we can, at least, re-live last year by the power of Youtube.  Here are the Manilva  Processions that took place on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday 2019.

Easter celebrations will have to be virtual this year. I would normally have the kids home and would cook a huge roast dinner. I’m still going to cook the roast dinner but it will be just the two of us. Another family skype call is in order this weekend I feel.

Happy Easter Everyone!!
