Canyoning in Benahavis

Just half an hour north, you can find yourself in Benahavis for an out of the ordinary experience. The Charca de la Mozas Canyon is an awesome place to go canyoning. If you fancy scrambling over rocks, sliding down a waterfall and swimming through caves, this is the day trip for you!

Take a drive slightly inland and park at the Mercadillo in Benahavis. From there you need to walk for approximately 20 minutes on the pedestrian path beside the road until you reach the signposted entrance for the beginning of the canyoning experience. Then, walking downstream, you embark on your adventure! You can take your time, admiring the stunning scenery and rocks around you as you start your approximately 2 hour trip down the river.

We would definitely recommend wearing comfortable sports shoes or trainers that have grip (as some of the rocks can be quite slippery!) and warn against wearing flimsy footwear such as flip flops and sandals. Whilst this isn’t a difficult adventure, we do not recommend it for small children, those who aren’t competent swimmers or those without a base level of physical fitness. If you are taking children, make sure have wetsuits as whilst the water isn’t freezing, it’s not always the warmest for small bodies. We learn’t this from experience!!

The hike down the river is spectacularly stunning and you often feel like you’ve been transported to a magical land that you only see in movies.
