The weather has been pretty lousy the past few days, in fact its been much nicer in the UK than here – I hate when that happens!! Anyway, it’s set to brighten up a little over the weekend so why not make the most of it and visit one of the prettiest villages in the area – Castellar de la Frontera.
Castellar de la Frontera is a village set within the ground of a well preserved Moorish fortress, located in the national park ” Los Alcornocales” in the province of Cadiz. It is only a short 35 minutes drive form Manilva. The village has some wonderful buildings and the views are stunning – on clear days you can see see almost the whole coastline and across to Africa.
Ecotourcasares has organised a hike for this Sunday, 12th April around the area of Castellar de la Frontera. The hike will take you through the national park, around the medieval path, taking in the remains of an ancient winery and several iron age burial grounds. The hike will then head to the village for a walk around the castle and to admire the fabulous views .
The hike will be 9km in total and it not a difficult walk so is open to everyone – price is 10€ per person which includes a guide who will give you both historical and botanical information, and insurance.
After the walk, you can grab a well deserved lunch in one of the many good restaurants in the village.
