Puentes…

Whether living in Spain or just visiting, I’m sure, at some point, most people have heard the term “Puente” with reference to a bank holiday.

So, what is a puente, well, literally translated, the word means “bridge” …and that’s exactly what happens – the Spanish bridge a holiday generally into a weekend. For example, if the bank holiday falls on a Thursday, a perfect example is the next fiesta, el Día de la Constitución on 6th December, then most schools, many government offices and some private companies will also take the Friday as a holiday hence making a long weekend.  Even if your company is working the day after a holiday, many individuals will take the extra day as a days leave to take advantage of the puente

Many hotels and travel companies offer good deals over Puente weekends  as they realise that lots of people will not be working for a few days.
