The delegation of Tourism for Manilva Town Council, has organised a trip to the Alora soup festival… I know, even after 10 years in Spain, I’ve never heard of this one….Apparently, its a fiesta to commemorate the work made by so many laboring each day in the fields not so long ag0. The workers, who spent the whole day in the countryside would make “Sopa Perota” as a a quick, easy and economical way to re-energize themselves and allow them to keep going through the rest of the day. The Perota soup is a hearty vegetable soup and takes its name from the locals of Alora who are called Perotas. The “Día de las Sopas Perotas” is one of the most important fiestas in the gastronomical and cultural calendar of Malaga. The event will include free tastings of sopa perota as well as other local delicacies. Around 7,000 bowls of the soup will be served on the day along with locally grown manzanilla olives. There will be plenty of entertainment as well throughout the day, such as children ´s activities, workshops and flamenco dancing as well as a market with local food and crafts.
This years event will take place on Saturday October 6. There are limited places so book early. The coach leaves from Manilva Health Center at 9am and at 9.15 from the bus stop in Sabinillas by Supersol . The return trip from Alora will be at 6pm
