Last week we lunched at Floria. Well, if you thought this was a traditional chiringuito, think again. the initial impression is a “shack on the beach” and this rustic feel seems to follow through to the furniture with the tables and chairs made from old bits of wood and painted in bright colours. No table clothes here, you are actually sat with your feet in the sand but that just adds to the charm of the place. The menu isn’t tradational chiringuito either – yes, there are fish dishes such as prawn pil pil and calamares but also several meat and chicken dishes and pizza. We ordered prawn pil pil, Campo chicken (recomended by the owner) and octopus. The pil pil and chicken arrived in tin pots, again rustic. Everything was delicious. The service was not fast but it didnt need to be. Everything about this place made you feel relaxed and evokes a “Tarfifa – chill out feel!”. We could quite happily have sat, ate, drank and chatted all day – such a shame we had to go back to work!
Floria ia not easy to find – maybe thats part of the appeal – a secret hideaway on the beach. To acess it, you need to exit the A7 at La Paloma roundabout and come back on yourself down the slip round adjacent to Playa Paraiso. Just keep going, across the river – perhaps a 4×4 is better but its drivable in a car if you take it slow – and then you stumble on Floria.
We will certainly be going back, in fact, one of my collegues took her family there the following evening – her daughter ended up deancing on the table……. but she is only 3!!!
