Dragon De Oro Chinese Restaurant Hacienda Guadalupe

Lunch on Friday was at the Dragon De Oro chinese restaurant in Hacienda Guadalupe. First impession on entering was wow, purple! All the tableclothes and chair covers were purple but it worked. The restaurant is spacious and if you sit in the back part, you can see into the kitchen and watch your food being cooked. Menu de dia is €9.50 for 3 courses + drink + coffee. I have to say, I was very impressed with the choice of starters and main courses on the menu del dia menu – about 10 of each.  Having said that, not everything was what I would call Chinese! Starters included melon, prawn cocktail and seafood salad as well as the expected spring rolls and chicken satay. “Chinese” mains were chicken or beef with vegetables and a couple of prawn dishes. Further main course choices were speghetti bolognaise and grilled rosada! The main course could be served with either fried (or fired as printed on the menu!), chips or speghetti. I admire the fact that they were offering something different and it’s great if you are going with kids or someone who is not particularly partial to chinese food. As we’d gone to a “Chinese” restaurant, we opted for “Chinese” food! Spring rolls and dumplings and Chicken & vegetable. We were very impressed with the quality (and quantity) of the food. The starter was 2 spring rolls and 2 triangular shaped pasties (similar to empanadillas). All delicious, very fresh and not at all greasy. We were quite full after the starter so when a huge plate of chicken & vegetable and rice was put in front of each of us, we were stunned. We could only manage half of it. In hindsight, it may have been a cheaper option to order from the menu a starter each and a main dish and rice to share. You live and learn – we’ll know for next time!

Overall, very impressed – may go back for a takeaway after payday!

For anyone who doesn’t know the area, Dragon D’Oro is located on the A7 exit KM 142 just past the petrol station.
