The 68th Vuelta de España – Spain’s equivalent to the Tour de France and one of the prestigious events in the cycling calendar starts this Saturday 24th August in Vilanova de Arousa in Northern Spain and runs for 3 weeks culminating in Madrid on 15th September
This years event will be made up of 21 stages and will cover a total distance of 3,319,1 kilometres. Within the stages are 6 flat stages, 13 mountain stages, 1 team time trail stage and 1 individual time trail stage
We are especially lucky this year as the 8th stage of the race end at the top of Estepona mountain!! Our stage takes place on Saturday 31st August leaving from Jerez and ending 980m up the Altos de Peñas Blancas. That’s quite a slog, especially after having already ridden the 150km from Jerez…
The route passes through San Martin de Tesorillo, San Enrique de Guadiaro, along the N340 through Duquesa and Sabinillas and onto Estepona where they turn inland and head up the mountain.

According to the official website, the riders should reach Duquesa and Sabinillas around 4.30pm but I suppose it could be earlier or later depending on the heat!!
So, if you’re a cycling fan (or even not) come and support the riders – you may even spot Bradley Wiggens and Chris Froome – yes they are taking part.
