Cycling is very popular in this area. Almost every weekend, you will see groups of cyclists from various different clubs, cycling along the N340 or other roads. Sometimes its just a few, other times there can be around 50… Also, following on from the Olympics and a British winner to last years Tour de France, there seems to be an overall increase in interest in the sport.
Well, big news for all Cycling fans is that the eighth stage of the 2013 Vuelta a España cycle race will climax at the summit of the Peñas Blancas just above Estepona. The “Vuelta a España” is an annual 3 week cycle race, now listed as one of the most prestigious races in the cycling calendar, up there with the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia. This years event consists of 21 stages, starting on 24th August and ending in Madrid on 15th September.

“Our” stage takes place on 31st August, starting in Jerez and finishing at the top of the mountain in Estepona!!
