Don’t get me wrong, I love it here but, as Manilva expanded so quickly, the infrastructure does need to catch up with the rest of the world!! Things have definitely improved over the last 10 years – you were lucky to get a phone line then, let alone an internet connection…and if you lived in the campo, well, forget it!! Now, most places have 3G mobile network and ADSL. Fibre optic and 4G has reached the main cites – go to Madrid and you can get mobile signal and wifi on the underground!!! – but up until now had not reached Manilva.
This is now set to change – following a meeting with Manilva’s mayor, Diego Urieta, and the regional director for Telefonica, María Jesús Almazor, it has been announced that fibre optic internet will be available in Manilva later this year. Work has already started on the FTTH (Fibre To The Home) infrastructure, which will be ten times faster than the ADSL most of us are working with at the moment. With all us ex-pats now relying on the internet for our UK TV, this can only be good news.
As well as benefiting domestic households, the main impact will be on local business – lack of decent internet connection has been a bugbear for many years!!
4G mobile technology will also be introduced at no extra costs to current subscribers.
Can’t wait!!!
