Following the successful trip last year, once again, Manilva’s Foreigners Department has organised a trip to the Festival de la Luna Mora de Guaro. The festival is celebrated every September in the town of Guaro which is situated in the national park ” Sierra de las Nieves” in Malaga
The festival itself has been held in Guaro for the past 16 years and is a spiritual tribute to Andalucia´s Muslim, Christian and Jewish past. As before, you can expect to see a variety of performances including music and dance from many different influences. As well as entertainment, the local shops spill out onto the streets, and stalls selling a variety of products are set up and the restaurants and bars keep with the theme of the festival.
The beautiful and most spectacular part of the festival is that the whole town of Guaro is illuminated with more than 22,000 candles. The Street lights are turned off and a wonderful atmosphere is created.
The festival always runs over 2 weekends (5-6 and 12-13 of September) but the trip is on Friday 5th September. Various concerts are also held over the two weekends and on the 5th, you can enjoy a concert by José Manuel Soto.
The coach leaves Castillo at 6 pm and picks up from Sabinillas at 6.15pm. Return time will be around 2am on Sunday morning. Tickets are priced at €8.00 per person and can be obtained from the Foreign Residents Office in the Castle or by calling 952 893 548-
If you can’t make the trip itself, try to get there the following weekend. It’s definately worth it.
