You would think that , with the long 12 week summer break that the kids get here, many working parents would struggle to cope… but, for as long as I can remember , there has always been a summer school here in Manilva.
Los patios de verano, literally translated, “summer playgrounds” are run by the parents association of the schools in collaboration withe the town hall’s education department. Years ago, there was a summer school in Manilva school and another in Sabinillas school but for the past few years, these have been amalgamated into one, held at the new Maicandil school.
As well as a bit of homework help and revision, there is always lots of fun things for the kids to do such as dance workshops, various sports, handcrafts, theatre, films and water games. There is usually a few trips to the beach included..
The summer school is open to all children registered at a Manilva school, aged between 3 and 13, and will run throughout July and August.
This year, as well as the usual 9 -2 timetable, they are also offering morning, afternoon and full day options.
