playa de cala sardinia Torreguadiaro

Playa de Cala Sardinia can be found just at the entrance to Torreguadiaro and is in my opinion, one of the nicest beaches in the area. We have been visiting this beach for over 15 years and seen it change (for the better) throughout that time. Some people refer to it as Playa Chullera but in our house it’s simply known as “The Cove”  It is only 900m long and 35m wide but even on the busiest bank holidays, it never gets really really packed.

15 years ago it was, just literally, a cove. You drove off the main road into Torreguadiaro, down a dirt track and parked on the beach – Everything you might need you had to take with you. To be honest, the access hasn’t changed much – it’s still a dirk track but there is a parking area of sorts although later in the day, cars are still parking on the beach. Now, however, there are 2 chirringuitos, one either end of the cove each with sunbeds and umbrellas outside that you can hire for the day. The one to the right (facing the sea) is more traditional – i.e. wooden shack whereas the one to the left has a somewhat “posher” appearance with covered chair backs and large drapes.

As well as the chirringuitos, there is a lifeguard tower, a first aid centre ,toilets (including a disabled toilet) and showers.

The sea is quite shallow although on a windy day you can get quite big waves – my son has had many a good time there with his body board.

You can walk along the shoreline to a few more hidden coves – collecting shells along the way. There are shells and pebbles in abundance – you might even see the old crab in amongst the rocks.

To access, Playa de Cala Sardinia, take the A7 coast road towards Cadiz. At the Torreguadiaro roundabout (KM137), take the second exit to Torreguadiaro. Almost immediately on your left (just past the bump) you will see the entrance track.
