When I read about this in one of the free magazines, I thought it was a wind-up but, no. Further research on the internet proved it to be true – there is indeed and exhibition containing Barbie (&ken) dolls in one of the most beautiful gardens in Malaga, the La Concépción Gardens.
This exhibition can be found in the exhibition building of the gardens and can be seen until Jan.6. The artist, Alberto Martin, a hairdresser from Torremolinos, has recreated the history of the gardens and the life of the Marqueses de Loring, the founders of the gardens, in the 19th century. The recreation is done with 222 Barbie dolls, all dressed up in costumes of the 19th century. Alberto has made it his hobby collecting Barbie dolls and giving them new life as an art form. The exhibition has been created from old photographs of the Loring family and the gardens. The attention to detail and accuracy is amazing.
A truly different exhibition – plus the gardens themselves are well worth a visit – don’t forget your camera…
The gardens are open from 9.30 – 17.30 (closed Christmas Day and New Years Day) . For more information, call 95 225 21 48.
